Verkkouutiset is a member of the Council for Mass Media in Finland (JSN). We follow its professional and ethical guidelines in all our journalistic work, ensuring the honesty, independence and integrity of our reporting. You can read more about the guidelines here.

Funding: Our journalism is funded by subscriptions to our quarterly magazine, advertising and funding from the ownership of our publishing company
Verkkouutiset.fi was founded in 1996 and our magazine in 1955.
Journalist Expertise
All our journalists are known professionals who mainly cover fields where they have academic and/or practical expertise as well as established contacts. All our news articles carry bylines and names of the journalist and or journalists involved in producing the article are published.

Verkkouutiset publishes news articles, analyses and opinion pieces, which are all clearly labeled as such.
Our news is based on facts with reliable sourcing. Verkkouutiset also fact checks factual claims made in opinion pieces and analyses before publication.
References and methods
Verkkouutiset always clearly publishes sources used in our reporting and states where information we publish is coming from. We strive to base our reporting on original sources and material as well as seek corroborating sources for our reporting. We provide links to and provide all possible information about outside sources so that our readers can check and verify our reporting themselves.
Locally Sourced
Verkkouutiset is based in central Helsinki. With a focus on domestic politics, we have an active presence in Eduskunta, the parliament of Finland. We have several accredited journalists reporting directly from the parliament. Verkkouutiset always has at least 2 journalists working directly from the parliament building. Our journalists also regularly travel to do interviews with decision-makers, interest groups, labor unions and academic and other experts in Helsinki and around Finland as well as abroad.
Verkkouutiset publishes articles from freelance journalists who are based in Brussels and Estonia.
Diverse Voices
Verkkouutiset is committed to covering political questions and debates from a variety of viewpoints. We are committed to non-discrimination in our staff policy. We regularly publish diverse viewpoints from different political parties, experts and other groups. Our mission is to report accurately about relevant topics and provide the reader with all the facts and context. According to surveys done in recent years, our readers appreciate our effort to seek out viewpoints that are less commonly heard in political or societal discussion.

Verkkouutiset is committed to accurate reporting and we value feedback from our readers. Our readers can post comments directly on the articles or on our social media. Online discussion on our website is moderated according to strict principles found here. We invite the public to discuss our articles, opinion pieces and analyses. Verkkouutiset is actively engaged with our readers and we make an effort to answer every contact via email or phone.
We correct possible errors as quickly as possible to provide our readers with the correct facts. Our contact addresses are posted clearly on our website. As a member of the Council for Mass Media in Finland (JSN), we are obligated to correct errors as soon as possible. Verkkouutiset also publishes response articles to our opinion pieces to ensure diversity of opinion and to promote unbiased public discourse.
