By registering for and/or using the verkkouutiset.fi service or related services, you accept these terms of use. The terms of use apply to registration for the service, its use, the content of the site, and the services provided on it.

1. General Kansalliskustannus Oy (hereinafter ”Verkkouutiset”) publishes news, images, reports, additional news materials, and other material on the Verkkouutiset.fi online service and applications, and may also offer other electronic services to its readers (hereinafter the ”Service”).

By using the Service, the customer accepts and commits to comply with these terms of use. The customer does not have the right to use the Service if they do not accept the terms of use in their entirety. The contractual relationship between the customer and Verkkouutiset is governed by the currently valid terms of use.

These terms of use apply to the use of the Service. The terms of use include the conditions for using the Service as well as the verkkouutiset.fi privacy statement. Special terms may apply to the services offered on the Verkkouutiset.fi online service. In the event that the special terms applicable to a section of the Service conflict with these terms of use, the special terms of the service in question shall primarily apply.

2. Registration Using the Service does not require registration unless otherwise stated for a specific service.

When registering for the Service, the user must choose a username and password, and provide at least the following information: full name and email address. When logging into the Service, the user may also provide other information about themselves.

The user is solely responsible for the information provided during registration or otherwise in connection with the use of the Service. The user warrants that all information provided during registration and otherwise in connection with the use of the Service is correct and truthful. The user can update their personal information at any time.

3. Using the Verkkouutiset.fi Service The user may use the Service to the extent permitted by these terms of use.

The user has an obligation to provide correct and complete information upon registration and to keep the user information up to date. Using the username, user account, or other information of other users is strictly prohibited. The user is responsible for all activity that occurs through their user account as well as for keeping the Service password confidential. The user must notify Verkkouutiset in writing immediately if they suspect misuse of the user account, password, or other information.

The user agrees not to present in or through the Service, or utilize any information or material that: a. is misleading, inaccurate, or false; b. is unlawful, racist, offensive, or morally reprehensible; c. contains personal, financial, or otherwise sensitive information of other individuals; d. infringes upon the intellectual property rights of Verkkouutiset or third parties, or violates laws or official regulations; e. contains commercial or disruptive features, such as advertisements, pyramid schemes, or spam; f. may contain software viruses or other harmful elements that could damage the operation of software, devices, or systems; or g. in any other way conflicts with these terms of use.

The user must not and must not attempt to: (i) copy code, disassemble, decompile, or otherwise derive any source code or algorithm of the Service; (ii) modify, reformat, translate, or otherwise create derivative works from any part of the Service; (iii) rent, distribute, or otherwise transfer or copy the Service. In addition, the user agrees not to download for permanent storage, modify, distribute, or publish any material in the Service that they do not own.

The services are free of charge for the user, unless otherwise stated for a specific service. The content, prices, and payment terms of paid services are announced separately for each service. Verkkouutiset has the right to change the prices of paid services by announcing it in the Service or in another manner it deems appropriate in advance. If the value-added tax rate, public fee, or operating model of an authority included in the service prices changes, Verkkouutiset has the right to adjust the prices accordingly.

The customer is personally responsible for using the Service and for the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and costs of the hardware, software, telecommunications, and data transmission connections required to use the Service. The customer must not connect to or use the Service in a manner that causes unreasonable load or other harm to the network, other networks connected to the network, users of the Service, other third parties, or Verkkouutiset.

4. Rights to the Service and its content The copyright and other intellectual property rights to the Service and its content (written material, images, videos, music, etc.) belong to Verkkouutiset and the owners and/or licensors of the material published in the Service.

The user has the right to utilize the Service and its content solely for private use. The user does not have the right, without the written permission of the author, rightsholder, or Verkkouutiset, to distribute, publish, copy, publicly perform, make available to the public, or otherwise commercially exploit the Service or its content. The following condition applies to Lehtikuva images published in the Service: The (Lehtikuva) photographs or parts thereof included in this Service may not be published, broadcast, or otherwise made available to the public without the written consent of Lehtikuva Oy. The images or parts thereof included in the Service may not be stored in a computer-readable format for any purpose other than personal, non-commercial use. Lehtikuva Oy or its photo suppliers are not liable for any damages caused by the use of the service containing the images, delays or errors in data transmission, or any other matter related to the use or storage of these images.

Automated systems (including ”robot”, ”spider”, ”scraper”, and ”offline reader” software) may not be used to collect, read, or make copies of Verkkouutiset’s services, materials, or parts thereof, for example, without limitation, for text and data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence development, algorithm training or enrichment, or for making the services or materials available to the public without the express prior written consent of Kansalliskustannus Oy.

Verkkouutiset has the right to editorially process or not publish, in whole or in part, the content submitted to the Service. The sender of the content is responsible for ensuring that the publication of the content they submit or transmit does not offend any third party, infringe any third party’s ownership or copyright or other rights, and is not contrary to law or good practice.

5. Data Protection Verkkouutiset processes the personal data of registered Users in accordance with the Service’s register description and privacy statement, and in accordance with privacy protection legislation. Verkkouutiset uses cookies in the Service. A cookie is a small text file that the browser saves on the user’s terminal device. Cookies are used to collect information about the terminal device, such as how often the Service is used and which parts of the Service interest the user. Cookies enable certain features of the Service; if desired, the user does not have to enter usernames, passwords, and personalization choices every time. Cookies are also used to develop our Service. The user can, if they wish, prevent the receipt and use of cookies by changing their browser settings. In doing so, however, the user accepts that the usability of the Service may be significantly limited.

Users acknowledge and accept that profiles and other information or material they add to the Service may be used as part of the Service’s marketing within the framework of these terms of use and agreement conditions, as well as the law.

6. Service Availability The Service is generally available continuously. Despite Verkkouutiset’s efforts, the Service may experience temporary or prolonged interruptions due to, among other things, maintenance, general system or Internet malfunctions, or so-called force majeure. The user is not guaranteed uninterrupted access to the Service, nor continuous and uninterrupted availability, and Verkkouutiset is in no way liable for faults occurring in these or in technical systems or data transmission. If the user violates the terms of use of the Service or the special conditions related to a specific service, Verkkouutiset has the right to close and delete the user’s account in question. Verkkouutiset has the right to reject a user’s registration on the site and/or close a user’s account if necessary, if there is reason to suspect that the user in question is using the service for illegal purposes or is not complying with the terms of use of the Service.

7. Limitation of Liability Verkkouutiset is not responsible for any information and content presented in or through the Service by users or third parties. Verkkouutiset does not guarantee that the information and content presented in or through the Service is truthful or serves any specific purpose. Verkkouutiset is not liable for any indirect damages caused by the Service or its use.

8. Amendments Verkkouutiset reserves the right to amend these terms of use. The amendment to the terms of use takes effect when Verkkouutiset publishes the new terms of use or otherwise announces the new term of use. By continuing to use the Service after the amendment, the user accepts the amendment and commits to comply with the amended term.

Verkkouutiset has the right to change the content of the Service or to remove the content, structure, service hours, or other matters related to the Service or parts thereof.

9. Other Terms The Service contains links and connections to third-party websites. Such services provided by a third party or applications transmitted by a third party are subject to the terms of use and other conditions of the third party in question.

The Service and these terms of use are governed by Finnish law, excluding its conflict of law provisions.
